Did you know, Varig didn't want the 990! When Varig bought Panair, they where forced to take it. Convair even flew a 990 down to Rio, loaded it with sand bags just to prove to the Varig lawyers that it can perform within the standards that Varig required. So Varig operated three in total from 63 to 71 I believe.

That´s right! As a side note VARIG operated the Convair, DC-8 and 707 at the same time.
Thus the only airline to ever operate them simultaneously. So much history, its really awesome.
