We use McAfee at work, and I have Norton at home. However, sometimes these cannot find and clean some of the more recent pain-in-the-ass trojans. But here is a great, and FREE, and SAFE drive/computer cleanup tool. I had received an email at the office (I'm talking State LE computer) containing a persistant trojan, and this program cleaned my drive, and removed the trojan. The program is called SPYBOT, and you can find it at:

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

or just check Google and type SPYBOT. It will save you a costly trip to your local computer repair store, and fix your machine in about one hour. So you have more money (about three planes worth) for the hobby.

You should be using 'Trend Micro Internet Security Pro'.

I have been a loyal subscriber for 5 years with zero problems, all the while being on the internet 24/7.

I'm also on the net 24/7 and never a problem.

I use Viper so no need for multiple programs, Viper takes care of all virus and spyware.

I've been using Firefox as my browser and Eset's NOD32 for antivirus for while now. So far I haven't had issues keeping my comp clean.

One thing I would highly recommend people do is create a regular user account and use that 99% of the time. If you need to make changes, then and only then use the admin account.

If get something malicious, it also gets the same security permissions as that account.

I use Avast as anti-virus. It is free, no subscription and has kept a number of pc's safe for some years now. Also use Spybot and for the very difficult to remove stuff I use a product called Malwarebytes.

I second this one. Used it for a few years on my PCs at work with an 100% satisfaction rate.

I did switched tough to Avira for home, with the same level of satisfaction

Best advice is dont click on Sals pictures,

You may get ads but not anything else on the adult photos. Can't be helped as it's the only way they can be posted.

As for those ads I don't even get those when I use Fire Fox with Adblock plus 1.3.5

Now if you don't use protection you are liable to get just about anything!! ;)

I use adblock too on Chrome, this is excellent.;)
I have to confess that I see none of the top right corner ads from this site :^^:

NO - this is not correct

Please don't give out such advise when it's clear you don't understand the difference between anti-virus and anti-spyware programs.

SPY BOT is not an anti-virus program it is for spyware removal only.
The two programs are NOT the same, one is an anti-virus program and the other is an anti-spyware program.

SPYBOT is an anti-spyware program and WILL NOT remove viruses such as Trojans and Worms.

Norton and McAfee are anti-virus programs and WILL NOT remove spyware.

Spyware programs all have different databases in the spyware they search for and eradicate - therefore it is a good idea to use more than one
anti-spyware program.

DO NOT use two anti-virus programs on the same PC at the same time.
It will cause problems as one AV program may identify the other AV as a virus and cause further problems.

What you had on your State LE computer was not a Trojan virus but in fact spyware, this is why SPYBOT was able to remove it.

Agreed, the AVG basic edition is doing a great job, using it on all our PC's and laptop.
