Star Trek 2009 2 DVD with Starship Enterprise Release
Hi All,
Strangely enough, Star Trek was released on DVD and Blu-Ray in Australia this past week (nearly a month ahead of it's release in the USA) and we were lucky enough to get the Limited Edition version which includes a model of the 'new' Starship Enterprise from the movie. I was hoping it would come with the Blu-Ray edition but I was unlucky so I've bought both, and I'm awaiting my preordered Amazon copy which includes the QMx Pewter/Metal finished Enterprise replica as well. For Australian, or Region 4 DVD purchasers, this release is available from: EzyDVD @ $59.97AUD http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/808447 JB Hi-Fi @ $54.98AUD http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/ (you'll have to search for it!) You can also purchase in Germany: http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_ss?__m...k+2009&x=0&y=0 and Japan: http://www.amazon.co.jp/スター・トレック-エンタ...02JTZ6XQ/ref=s Check here for some other Limited Edition releases and promotions: http://trekmovie.com/2009/10/27/star...ilable-online/ I've taken some photos and decided to do a bit of a review on the model that comes with the 2 DVD set. I wasn't expecting much from this model. I figured it'd resemble the shape of the Enterprise from the film and have a few markings here and there. But I'm pleasantly surprised. Someone went to a lot of trouble to get this model looking as good as it does! The model comes in 9 parts (including the stand, and the saucer is in two halves). It's pretty foolproof to construct, but once the plastic parts are snapped in place and can only go in one way so the end product should be correct! Good luck if you ever want to deconstruct it again. The most fragile parts being the warp engine pylons, but overall it's a rather sturdy model. The hull markings are accurate, including the name and registry on the saucer, as well as registry number on the warp nacelles, shuttlebay entrance and underneath the forward engineering hull. The Starfleet 'pinstripes' are represented down the side of the engineering hull as well as docking points, thrusters, phasers and windows etc. The colours appear to be accurate to the movie version. Blue nacelle ramscoops and areas around the 'shrouds' on top, the blue of the deflector dish. The 'aztec' hull pattern isn't represented, but might distract from the look of the overall model. The ramscoops are presented in a translucent appearance and all vents and detail areas are coloured appropriately. The saucer takes two discs, one in each half. When on display, the saucer section can lock together reasonably securely so you don't have to worry about damaging your discs. The stand is black and one piece which bends into place to support the ship. Much like the rest of the ship, once fitted in place it cannot easily be removed. The stand features the Starfleet insignia on each side. As I said, I'm impressed. My main nitpick is that the location of the forward torpedo launcher seems to be a bit high on the neck connecting the saucer to the engineering hull. This is quite minor, but I'm sure it's located lower down on the 'real' example. Overall though I think this model is excellent value. All the better that it comes in a decent box and the 2 Disc DVD which accompany the unconstructed model in a standard 2 DVD Amaray case until you decide to store them in the saucer section. I think mine will mainly be used for display purposes, and with my own copy on Blu-Ray I'll probably never refer to the DVD at all. The new 'JJprise' has grown on me a bit since I first saw pics on the net. They've stayed true to the Constitution class design and modernised it, 'hot-rodded' it up a bit for a newer generation. I gotta say though, my favourite from the Kirk/Spock era will still be this beauty... Hope you enjoyed, Dan |

Good review. The dvd case Enterprise looks waaaaaaay better than the ones from Toys R us or some of the model kit Enterprise.
How much more did you have to pay over the standard 2-discs release though?

From the same retailer, you're paying about $15AUD more ($34.97AUD total) to get the ship to store the discs with. Although other retailers have more competitive pricing. eg, I bought the 3-Disc BluRay copy for $29.98AUD from a different store.
The stand is the correct way around. It looks a bit weird I admit, I think it's done that way to balance the ship particularly with the discs in the saucer - most of these models become saucer heavy by nature. Dan |

Look at that, not a bad representation at all. Very nice...
